Coat type: Smooth, glossy, close, dense and fine coat that is hard just like a
hound's coat for protection.
Color: Coonhounds are mostly available in solid golden rust color though most
people prefer to buy tri-colored ones that have a combination of white, black
and tan colors. Predominant white or black coonhound with tan trimming and
markings of the other color can be bought too. There are shades of black such as
saddle black and blanket black. White coonhound with black or tan spots can be
bought too.
Nature: Good with children and other dogs, Treeing Walker Coonhounds are easy to
train as they learn from example. Good as a companion, they are primarily
working and hunting dogs and demand and need lot of attention. High-strung,
loving, eager to please, intelligent, skilled and confident, Treeing Walkers are
swift, energetic and have keen smelling sense and endurance. They have a
distinctive howl. A Tree Walker Coonhound needs to be socialized at a young age.
They are known for their trailing, hunting and treeing instincts.
Grooming: Treeing Walker Coonhounds need average grooming with regular ear check
and cleaning to keep off infections and occasional brushing to remove dead hair.
Exercise: A hunting dog breed, it is not suitable for apartment living, as it
needs lot of exercise and will try to escape to resume hunting.
