History
The Scottish Fold was first spotted in 1961 by a shepherd named William Ross at
a farm near Coupar Angus in the Tayside Region of Scotland. The unique thing
about this cat was that her ears folded forward and downward on her head. This
look captured the hearts of many American cat fanciers and judges. The Cat
Fanciers' Association (CFA) granted championship status to Scottish Fold in
1978.
Appearance
Scottish Fold is characterized by folded ears. It is a medium-sized cat with a
rounded, well-padded body and a short, dense, and resilient coat. Its eyes are
large, round and broadly spaced. Scottish Fold kittens are born with straight
ears. After three to four weeks the ears start folding. Scottish Folds have a
kinked tail that lacks flexibility. They come in all colors possible with the
exception of those showing evidence of hybridization resulting in the colors
chocolate, lavender, the Himalayan pattern, or a combination of these and white.
Personality
Scottish Folds are intelligent, sweet-tempered and very loyal. They easily adapt
to new people and environment. They have a soft voice and are not extremely
vocal. They are gregarious and love human company.
