Dogs are known for their love and companionship but not for adequate manners
that befits a human household. It takes lot of patience to train and solve dog's
behavior problems. The barking dog is not always a nuisance and can only be a
tool that the dog uses to communicate with his owner. Aggressive tendencies such
as growling, baring teeth, biting, snarling and snapping can also be used to
express some particular sentiments. Sometimes, they perceive a person's friendly
intentions as threatening or intimidating. Thus, they show signs of irritability
and aggressive behavior. Dominant dogs use aggression as a challenge to their
status in the family hierarchy, physical restraints such as collaring the dog
and hugging. Fear of being harmed also makes dogs aggressive such as raising arm
to throw a ball may be perceived as an offending attack and may result in a dog
bite.
Defensiveness of his property, protectiveness and possessive tendencies towards
the owner may also result in aggressive behavior of the dogs. If somebody, whom
the dog cannot attack, somehow provokes him he may redirect his aggression to
someone more accessible. Predatory tendencies in a dog make him aggressive
whenever he is angry. These tendencies differ with breeds. While some dogs bite
with the slightest stimulation, others threaten a lot but rarely ever bite.
Behavior modification techniques can raise the threshold of patience and improve
the overall temperament of the dog. These include the medical check-up of the
dog by a veterinarian to rule out medical causes for the aggressive behavior.
In-home help from an animal behavior specialist might help too.
Check out for the dog's safety along with the other occupants of the house.
Walking with your dog in public might require a cage-type muzzle though some of
the dogs soon learn to take them off. Neutered dogs are found to be more
submissive and placid in nature. Punishment may only motivated fear worsening
the problem and thus, may be spared. A constantly barking dog is often a
nuisance in the quite neighborhood may be due to boredom and loneliness of the
dog and can be reduced, if you walk the dog at least twice daily. Play with the
dog for sometime such as 'Fetch the ball'. Keep your dog busy with interesting
toys. Petting and grooming make dogs feel loved too.
