Breed Type: Hounds
Weight: 90 to 110 lbs for Males, 80 to 100 lbs for Females
Height: 25 to 27 inches for Males, 23 to 25 inches for Females
Coat type: Short and smooth coat.
Color: Bloodhounds are mostly available in black and tan, liver and tan and
plain red colors with occasional white patch on the chest, feet or tip of the
tail.
Nature: Large and strong, Bloodhound is to be treated with both respect and
discipline. However they are the kindest and gentlest dog breeds. These daunting
canines are intelligent, eager to please, independent, gentle, affectionate and
are well known for their keen smelling sense. They do not bark frequently but
have a loud voice and are not menacing to children until they do start teasing
the dog. Bloodhounds are known to live pretty well with other dogs and household
pets and greet visitors happily. They can be stubborn and thus patient,
consistent and tactful training is required.
Grooming: Needs periodical cleaning of ears and brushing.
Exercise: A Bloodhound is made for hunting and hiking and needs lots of regular
hardcore activities to keep fit. It has stamina to walk for hours on end and is
an ideal camping pal.
