Nature: Used as a guard dog and a police dog by the Japanese, Akita has a
powerful built that were earlier used to hunt bears in Japan. Their strong
hunting instincts and quiet demeanor, calmness and intelligence make them good
watchdogs. They are not tolerant of other dogs around them and need to be
trained early to be tolerant toward other pets in the household. They can be
patient with children, if they do not encroach upon their personal space while
they maintain suspicious distance with strangers. Confident and consistent
training with variations works best with Akitas.
Grooming: This dog breed needs to be groomed only twice a year, when the dog is
shedding by combing his hair using a metal-toothed comb.
Exercise: Akitas have good stamina but do not get too upset, if you do not take
them to long walks every day.
