MINGORA: Six people, including a councilor and his son, were killed and
several others wounded in different incidents of violence in restive Swat valley
on Sunday.
Three members of a family were killed and a woman was injured when a shell fell
on the house of Faramosh in Wenai area of tehsil Matta. Two more people suffered
injuries when two other houses were hit by shells. The incidents as security
forces targeted militant locations in the region after they attacked a security
checkpost in Wenai. The injured were rushed to district headquarter hospital
Saidu Sharif.
The militants also attacked a Frontier Constabulary post in Charbagh tehsil
injuring two security personnel. The militant managed to escape after security
forces retaliated.
Union councilor Faridoon Khan and his son Karimullah were killed and their house
and shop torched by unidentified miscreants in Mingora city. The bullet-ridden
bodies of both father and son were found lying at the Haji Baba Chowk. A written
note was also found with the bodies, reading: ‘The cruel people would have to
meet the same fate.’
A property dealer Taj Buland was also gunned down by unknown persons in Kanju
township of tehsil Kabal.
Meanwhile, forty more supporters of late Pir Samiullah were set free by Taliban
loyal to hardline cleric Maulana Fazlullah on Sunday. Taliban spokesman Muslim
Khan claimed that no charges had been proved against the detainees who had been
sprung free.
The spokesman claimed that 18 war prisoners in their captivity and their fate
would be decided by the Taliban Shura (council).
