RAWALPINDI: The work for retrieving the bodies from beneath the debris of the
blaze struck caved in building Gakhar Plaza was briskly underway here, which has
yielded today the recovery of one more body completely charred, taking the death
toll in the incident to 9.
The relief and rescue operation was still underway at Gakhar Plaza, which had
caught fire in the mid of Friday and Saturday night and had next day caved in at
Saddar area here, and in the process one charred body has been recovered this
morning, which sources told was not identifiable. The rescue teams have started
removing the debris with the help of high-tech equipments confirming beneath any
dead or alive person. Officials said that the work of clearing the debris would
be completed by the end of this day. Fire flames could be seen on the second day
of the incident also. During the nightlong rescue operation the bodies of 5
rescue workers of Ordinance factory Wah Cantt were recovered, while 1 of Civil
Aviation, 1 of Tehsil Municipal Town Administration, 1 guard of the Plaza and 1
citizen. The wounded persons have been admitted into the different hospitals of
Rawalpindi. Hundreds of workers of Rescue 112 and Pak Army men were engaged in
clearing the debris, while the high officials were also supervising the work.
