The protest began when an official introduced Mr Khosa, who took his place on
the dais along with Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, Justice Khalilur Rehman
Ramday, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Khawaja Mohammad Sharif and Barristers
Aitzaz Ahsan and Hamid Khan.
Hundreds of lawyers present at the event organised by the Punjab Bar Council
started chanting slogans like ‘Go, Khosa, go’. Some even attempted to get on the
dais to physically remove him.
In the ensuing melee, a photographer fell to the ground and Mr Khosa’s son,
Khurram Latif Khosa, had a scuffle with hostile lawyers to save his father.
At one stage, Mr Ahsan approached the microphone in an attempt to appeal for
calm, but faced with a finger-waving crowd he smiled and returned to his seat.
Asif Ali Malik, the vice-chairman of the PBC, then announced that Mr Khosa might
leave the reception voluntarily — a suggestion that was met with applause.
Eventually, the attorney general made his exit from a backdoor. |
