RAWALPINDI: Eight deaths have been confirmed and six still missing in the Gakhar
Plaza blaze that caved in the building, while relief works still underway.
The Commissioner here briefing the media Sunday morning said that 8 persons died
and 59 were injured in the Gakhar Plaza tragedy, of them 49 wounded were
released from the hospital after administering medical aid. He further said that
until yesterday 11 persons were missing, of them, 2 belonged to Civil Aviation
Authority and 9 to Pak Air Force.
Rawalpindi Commissioner, Haseeb Athar told that the Plaza fire has been brought
under control. He said that there were fears of some persons still lying buried
under the debris and efforts were afoot for their retrieval, hoping to find out
any one alive. He said that workers of different organizations were busy in
relief operation.
It may be recalled that the fire at the busy shopping centre Gakhar Plaza at
Saddar area here had suddenly erupted in the mid of Friday and Saturday night,
which had started from a garment shop and soon engulfed the entire Plaza, which
had also resulted in the collapse of one portion of the building burying several
persons under the debris.
