What better way to celebrate a festival than by offering prayers and words of
thanks to the Almighty. Thanksgiving is the time when people pray and offer
thanks to the Lord for His continuous grace. People offer prayers in groups,
both in the church and homes. Customary prayers prior to the traditional
Thanksgiving dinner are very popular and are said in unison, with people holding
hands and bowing their heads. Though there are no official prayers for the
festival, a number of hymns and words of gratitude have been written and
rewritten from a long time. Even during the historic feast between the Pilgrims
and the Wampanoag Indians, words of thanks were said aloud, to honor the harvest
season. Years later, both George Washington and Abraham Lincoln made history
with their Thanksgiving proclamations. Here also, we have provided a wonderful
Thanksgiving prayer, written by Mary Fairchild, just for you.
Thanksgiving Day Prayer
By Mary Fairchild
Heavenly Father, on Thanksgiving Day
We bow our hearts to You and pray.
We give You thanks for all You've done
Especially for the gift of Jesus, Your Son.
For beauty in nature, Your glory we see
For joy and health, friends and family,
For daily provision, Your mercy and care
These are the blessings You graciously share.
So today we offer this response of praise
With a promise to follow You all of our days.
