Teachers help a great deal in becoming a great human being, with knowledge
about various aspects of life. Teachers influence their student's life not just
at academic level, but also at the personal level. They help us to choose the
right path of success and influence us to become better human beings. Hence, a
day is especially dedicated to teachers, who form an important part of our
lives. Teacher's Day is celebrated with fun and fervor in different countries,
though on different dates. In India, the day commemorates the birthday of Dr.
Radhakrishnan, a philosopher, Statesman and ex-President of the country. He was
a great teacher as well.
As a part of the celebrations of Teacher's Day, many people dedicate songs,
speech, quotes and messages to their respective teachers. Cultural programs are
organized at schools and colleges, to honor teachers. Like any other festival,
Teacher's Day is incomplete without gifts. Apart from the usual gift items, you
may purchase something different, which is both useful for your teacher and
reflects your thoughtfulness. Books are often teacher's best friends, because it
is by perusing books that they become capable enough to impart knowledge to
their students.
As a gift item, books would help you to show your respect and affection to your
teacher. For the purpose, you should choose a book that is not merely a
bestseller, but also a reservoir of moral thoughts. The book "Goodbye, Mr.
Chips" by James Hamilton would be a good choice. "Goodbye, Mr. Chips" by James
Hamilton tells the story of a schoolteacher, Mr. Arthur Chipping, through his
tenure at Brookfield, a fictional boy's public boarding school. Although
Chipping has a very mediocre academic record, he goes on to have an impressive
career as an inspiring teacher, at Brookfield.
Mr. Chipping, nicknamed Mr. Chips', conquers his inability to mingle with the
boys at the school as well as his initial delicacy that he experiences, when he
marries Katherine, a young woman whom he meets on a holiday. She loosens him up
quite a bit, before dying in childbirth. After the death of his wife, he devotes
his life to teaching the boys at his school. It is a very famous Teacher's Day
book. James Hilton's "Goodbye, Mr. Chips" was filmed in 1939, 1969 and 2002. In
1984, it was also adapted to a television mini-series for BBC.
