Tere Naam Music Review
After 'Can true love call back the dead' in Saaya, Bollywood has another
interesting catchline coming up - 'Unfortunately, a true love story'. Yes !!
This is what the producer combine of Mukesh Talreja and Sunil Manchanda present
in this Satish Kaushik directed flick, which has Salman Khan and debutant
Bhoomika Chawla in lead. The movie - Tere Naam. In the making for some time now,
it is the first movie for Salman in a long long time now. (Tumko Na Bhool
Payenge and Hum Tumhaare Hai Sanam were released quite some time back). Sporting
a new (and rather daringly interesting !!) hairdo, Salman projects an altogether
different persona of himself whereas Bhoomika, after making a good impression
down south, makes her debut. Himesh Reshamiya, who is a favorite with Salman,
composes whereas Sameer writes.
One thing that strikes immediately after hearing completely to Tere Naam is that
there is an ample dose of sad tracks in this album. Just listen to 'Tune Saath
Jo Mera Chodha' (2 versions), 'Kyo Kisi Ko', 'Tere Naam' (Sad version). We will
talk in detail about this as we move on.
As the album begins, there is the title number 'Tere Naam' by Udit Narayan and
Alka Yagnik. It is a duet which has been sung well but the overall effect falls
in the mediocre category, primarily due to it's unattractive picturization.
Though the follow-up promo to the number is done well with Salman shown in scars
with a rugged look, the song itself just doesn't pick too well. Lyrics are just
OK. At best, the number proves to be a gap-filler. But yes, audio wise, it is
indeed good !! On the flip side is a solo each of the same track by Alka Yagnik
and Udit Narayan (sad version). Though the former registers an impact, later is
again average.
'Chunariya' specialist Himesh Reshamiya ('Odh Li Chunariya - Pyaar Kiya To Darna
Kya', 'Teri Chunariya Dil Le Gayi - Hello Brother') turns his attention to 'Odhni'
this time !! Sung by the duo of Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik, it is composed in
a typical Salman Khan love song. The way it has been choreographed also goes
perfect with the personality of Salman. Bhoomika looks good as well. An above
average love song, it doesn't do any harm to the flow of the album. After two
lovesongs comes the jazzy 'O Jaana'. The base of the number is ditto in the
style of Himesh's recent hit - 'Humse Hai Zamaana Saara' from Chura Liya Hai
Tumne, but the placement of lyrics is certainly different. A good racy track by
Udit, Kamaal Khan, KK, Shaan and Alka Yagnik, it does sustain your interest in
the album.
If you are a fan of Atta-Ullah-Khan (Acha Sila Diya Tune Mere Pyaar Ka, Sanam
Bewafa) and Altaf Raja, then you will definitely like 'Tune Saath Jo Mera Chodha'
!! Sung by Udit Narayan and Raghav with composition by Sajid Wajid and Jalees
Sherwani (lyricist), it may not be a sung by each and everyone alike but will
appeal to some segment of audience. A shorter sad version for the same is also
sung by Udit Narayan. 'Man Basia', a soothing bhajan comes as a whiff of fresh
air after all these numbers. Sung excellently by Alka Yagnik, it is remarkable
due to Himesh's subtle composition that uses minimal of musical instruments in
the background. Just listen to the vocals and feel relaxed !!
But once you have been fairly enjoying the album comes just-an-average 'Kyo Kisi
Ko' by Udit Narayan. Staring off so-very-similarly as 'Hamse Kya Bhool Hui, Jo
Ye Saza Humka Mili' - an old Rajesh Khanna hit, it is about a man ditched in
love who is questioning about 'why everyone is not fair in love?' A sad number,
it just passes by and can be best ignored. But then comes 'Chand' which catches
your attention again due to it's good melody. Sung by Udit Narayan about the
comparison of Salman's lady love with 'oh-so-popular' chand, it has Sameer in
good form here !!
Did you like 'Is Kadar Pyaar Hai' from the music album 'Deewana' by Sonu Nigam?
Get ready to hear a similar composition again - this time as 'Tumse Milna' a
duet by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik. A love song, it is is again just about OK.
Sukhwinder Singh croons 'Lagan Lagi' in his regular fashion. A not-so-new
composition by Sajid Wajid and lyrics by Jalees Sherwani, it is nothing great as
we have heard a number of such songs in past 4-5 years or so.
Music of 'Tere Naam' is a mixed bag of some good, average and some very average
songs. Though it does manage to hold attention in parts (Odhni, Chand, Man Basia),
a few other routine tracks just bring back the album to an average category.
Salman's fans may be a bit disappointed as the album is not in the class of his
recent musical hits (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Chori Chori Chupke Chupke). The
album stands a better chance if the movie runs well.
In sum - Average !! |
