Karan Johar lives up the promise he made to his fans a year and a half ago.
After basking in the glory of three mega universal successes KKHH, K3G and KHNH,
he vowed that his next film would be a genuinely 'hatke' movie. Result is for
everyone to be seen in the shape of ' Kaal ' that is a joint production of Shah
Rukh Khan and Karan Johar with Soham making his debut as a director. A thriller
set in the jungle with a theme of animal preservation; 'Kaal' is majorly shot in
Jim Corbett Park ( India ) and has a strikingly different look and feel in each
frame of the movie shown so far on the small screen. Starring some of the best
talent in the industry – Ajay Devgan, Vivek Oberoi, John Abraham with SRK in a
guest appearance, 'Kaal' has Lara Dutta, post-Dhoom Esha Deol and siren Malaika
Arora in a specially shot item dance number with SRK. With music by techno
wizards Salim-Sulaiman and lyrics by Shabbir Ahmed (Hindi) & Jeanne (English),
one is rest assured that ' Kaal ' would boast of a rollicking score.
A simple tune with easy to hum lyrics are given a great arrangement to make '
Tauba Tauba ' a sure shot hit with the audience. And more than the quartet of
singers Sonu Nigam, Kunal Ganjawala, Sunidhi Chauhan and Richa Sharma, the
credit should go to Bob and his chorus group who do the 'Rap' portion (written
by Jeanne) throughout the number. Their rendition during the number has such a
magnetic effect that what one continues to hum long after the song is through,
is the rap portion and the lyrics ' Tauba Tauba Ishq Main Kariya '. This is one
song that will sky rocket all the way to the top of the charts in a maximum of
two weeks flat.
If one thought that Tauba Tauba is going to be the only item number in this
Karan Johar movie then rethinking needs to be given as ' Kaal Dhamaal ' is
actually a ' dhamaal ' item song that is the track shot on SRK and Malaika Arora.
Kunal Ganjawala is fast reaching up the top singer bracket as this number too
appears to be a mass appealing song due to its pacy music, dance beats, and
punch in the rendition by Kunal who is well supported by Ravi "Rags" Khote,
Caralisa and Salim. With SRK and Malaika in a single frame dancing to Farah
Khan's steps, ' Kaal Dhamaal ' should be another inviting factor for the
audience. " The Tiger Mix " of the same is engineered and remixed by Bobby
Friction and The Infinite Scale that further makes the soundtrack of ' Kaal ' a
complete ' paisa vasool '.
Well the party doesn't stop even at this juncture and the feet continue to be
busy with ' Nassa Nassa ', a mix of Hindi, western and bhangra tune written and
composed by Anand Raj Anand, that is indeed different from a regular Punjabi
number in a Hindi movie. Sung by Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan, this number
doesn't scale the heights of the earlier two numbers but as a stand alone number
does well.
Kailash Kher writes and sings ' Ankhiyan Teriya Ve ' that makes ' Kaal ' one BIG
party album. Intentions of Karan Johar, Soham and Salim Sulaiman are very clear
at this point of time. They started off with a very conscious effort of doing
something very different from what Dharma Productions has been doing all this
while and surprise audience with a kind of musical score, which even a die hard
Karan Johar wouldn't have anticipated. Another enjoyable number in a row, its a
fusion of western and sufi music and comes up trumps on all accounts.
If anyone is thinking of a title song of ' Kuch Kuch Hota Hai ' or a ' Suraj Hua
Madham ' (K3G) or ' Kuch To Hua Hai ' (KHNH), then better re-set your
expectations as the makers have set out on an altogether different journey. This
is evidenced in ' Jungle Mix ', that is primarily a musical piece set in the
woods with Caralisa, Vijay Prakash and Jeanne chipping in with their bits. A
track that would mainly do the honors in the movie's background, it has a wild
feel throughout!
OK, so this is for the Johar fans! Because what you get as a last track is the
album is a ' Dharma Mix ' that brings together the remix of super hit tracks
from KKHH, K3G and KHNH - primarily ' Pretty Woman', 'Bole Chudiyan', 'Shava
Shava ' and ' Mujhko Kya Hua Hai ' - hence bringing the album to a grand finale.
And yes it is definitely better than the 'Non stop 50 tracks' that are churned
out practically every month.
' Kaal ' has a music that is destined to be a blockbuster from the first day of
its release. Another ace up in the sleeve for Karan Johar and the music company,
' Kaal ' should go good business at the music stores. Wait for the SRK-Malaika
number to hit the screens and an unparalleled craze for the album would be
witnessed soon. A young and peppy album, this is the ' Dhoom machale ' of 2005!
