Choosing to be a single mom is a very personal and emotional choice. The trend
of single motherhood is on the rise. Previously, women used to become single
moms only by chance due to a divorce, death of the spouse or unplanned
pregnancies before marriages. Being a single mother was not an option to choose
and was even considered derogatory. Single mothers who were never married were
often ridiculed and socially ostracizes. Times have changed now. Women are
becoming single moms by choice. They adopt babies or may even go for artificial
insemination. Today, it has almost become a movement.
The trend started with celebrities and most of the women who decide to be a
single mother are successful career women. More and more women today, reach
their 40s while pursuing their careers and still live alone. They prefer not
marrying and like being a spinster. Then, there is the urge to nurture and love,
perhaps like a mother, innate in women. While some women do not feel ready to
accept motherhood, may be because of their lifestyle or their medical
conditions, and prefer pets as companions; some others like to raise children of
their own and give them that has been locked in their hearts for years.
Besides money, car, nice clothes and a big house, they also long to have
children and a loving family for themselves. Raising children and sharing
happiness with them gives them the sense of satisfaction that only a mom can
feel. These women are generally confident, financially secure, intelligent and
self-assured and are fully ready to impart the same to their children. They are
ready to face the society and any comments that may come their way. Of course,
single parenting and being a single mom is quite demanding but it has its
cherish-able moments too. People are also accepting the decision to be a single
mom more readily now and also offer to help, which a single mom may like, just
like all moms do at times.
