Having twins or multiples may overwhelm you and you will find that you you’re
your control on your life. Family and friends and even strangers that you
encounter on a bus, local store or in parks may sympathize with you on having to
live through this predicament. However, there is a ray of hope at the end of the
tunnel. The life is harder than ever or ever will be for the first few months as
you try to make all your babies sleep through the night and not cry and wail.
The frustration of having to quiet one baby and then find that one in your lap
has still not stopped crying but has been joined in wailing by the other co-borns
too is unbearable. Your nipples are always sore by nursing all the babies.
Then, there are constant juggling acts to perform like feeding two babies
together or nursing one and changing the diaper of another with one hand and
trying to keep both of them from falling. You have to carry one or the other
baby always; no matter what you are doing and your home always seem to be in
need of cleaning. There are people who love to advise, without being asked, on
how to keep babies clean and why hygiene is so important for newborns. However,
on the up side, this will not always be the case. By the time, twins or
multiples turn two; you will find that it becomes much easier to manage them
than a singleton or siblings of different ages.
Teaching new skills, such as potty training, tying shoe laces, dressing up on
their own and combing their hair, to toddlers of same age proves to be much
easier than teaching them to one baby at a time. As twins and multiples grow
older, life with twins and multiples become almost a breeze. These kids are of
the same age and thus, can entertain each other much better than children of
different ages. They even teach other things and love to talk and share things,
which comes naturally to them as they have been doing this, even before they
were born. Twins and multiples already know about empathy, compassion and
tolerance and living in a society seems much easier to them.
