To cope with the increasing demands of Multipurpose Utility Vehicles (MUV),
Mahindra & Mahindra is planning to launch its MUV segment model - Mahindra
Ingenio, renamed as Mahindra Xylo. Mahindra has decided to venture into the
segment of MUV keeping to compete the popularity of Toyota Innova. The company
is planning to manufacture this segment at the company’s Nasik plant in
Maharashtra. M&M has earlier tried voyager van (developed in collaboration with
Japanese major Mitsubishi) in the MUV segment but the effort ended in a failure.
Design and Interior
Speculations are prevailing that Mahindra Ingenio would be manufactured on the
monocoque platform. As per some sources, it could even be a hybrid option.
Individual buyers as well as taxi segment both are targeted as prospect buyers
of this latest MUV from M&M. The company has promised to equip Mahindra Ingenio
with latest technology, contemporary styling and roomy interiors. It is expected
to provide better fuel economy and lower transmission, while giving the benefit
of a full hybrid performance. With this vehicle, Mahindra looks to cater to the
utility buyer, who is not looking for SUV looks, or off-road adventures, but
more at a large family vehicle for everyday use.
Variants
People looking for a regular use big family car can await the launch of this new
MUV from M&M. Mahindra Ingenio is expected to be launched in two-variants -
Renault petrol engine and a new state-of-art diesel engine, Eagle.
Engine
Mahindra Ingenio is supposed to be able to produce a power of 140Bhp with an all
aluminium 4 cylinder 2200cc CRDi Turbocharged engine accelerating 4 valves per
cylinder. Mahindra and Mahindra is reportedly working with a combination of
diesel and battery-operated hybrid for Ingenio. The result would supposedly give
a distinct advantage to the Ingenio with very low cost of running. |
